EV Innovations unveils electric cars

We're at the New York International Auto Show today, and one of the first things that caught our eye was the Wave, a brand new plug-in electric car from EV Innovations (formerlyHybrid technologies). The car is meant to be an affordable electric vehicle for commuters — it can get up to 170 miles on a charge. It starts at $34,000. And though the version at the show is just a prototype, the company claims it's not a concept, and that you can order one online starting today.
But with a top speed of 80 mph, the Wave isn't going to win any races. That's why EV Innovations also introduced the Inizio EVS (red interior and render pictured below), an all-electric sports car with a top speed of 170 mph that can go from 0-60 in just 4 seconds. The Inizio EVS can go 200 miles on a charge. But these upgrades from the Wave don't come cheap—the sports car costs more than $100,000 more than the Wave, with a starting price of $139,000. If they work, these two should give the Tesla Roadster and Tesla Model S a run for their money, but we'd feel more confident in the company's claims if it had brought working models to the show.
